What this site collects, what it does not, where it goes and what you can ask us to do about it.
01Who this is about
This website is operated by Find A Tough Lawyer Media LLC. We are a legal media and lead-generation company. We are not a law firm, we do not give legal advice, and we do not represent anyone.
This notice covers findatoughlawyer.com. It does not cover an attorney you speak to afterwards — they handle your information under their own policy and their professional obligations.
02You can use most of this site without telling us anything
Reading guides, accident and injury pages, location pages and reported case outcomes requires no personal information at all.
03The case factor check
The case factor check runs entirely in your browser. Your answers are never sent to us. They are not stored on our servers, and they disappear when you close or reload the page.
04What the request form collects
If — and only if — you choose to send a request, we collect what you type into the form:
- what kind of incident it was, and the state and city
- your name, phone number and e-mail address
- the type of injury, roughly when it happened, and what care you have had so far
- whether fault is disputed, and whether you already have an attorney
- anything you choose to write in your own words
- a small number of follow-up answers specific to the kind of case
Nothing on this form is required in order to read the site. You choose what to type, and you can stop at any point before sending.
05What is recorded alongside your request
When you send a request we also record:
- the exact consent wording you agreed to, its version, and the date and time — so that what you agreed to is never in doubt
- the page you were on when you sent it
- your IP address and browser type
Your IP address and browser type stay on this website. They are not passed on with your request; we keep them only to prevent abuse of the form and to keep the site secure.
06Where your request goes
Your request is stored on this website and sent to Airtable, a US software service we use to manage requests. That is the only place it is sent.
It is not currently passed to any attorney. Attorney routing is switched off while the rules that govern it are being settled. When that changes, this page will say so before it happens, and we will say which categories of information an attorney receives.
How this business works, stated plainly: our intention is to pass requests to independent participating attorneys, and those attorneys pay us. We are telling you that directly rather than burying it.
We do not sell your information to data brokers, list sellers or advertisers.
07Injury and health information
Details about your injury, your treatment or what happened to you are never sent to advertising platforms, never used to build advertising audiences, and never used as analytics dimensions.
This is enforced in the code, not just promised here: the analytics layer accepts a fixed list of non-identifying values and silently drops everything else, and web addresses are stripped of their query strings before analytics sees them so that answers cannot leak through a link.
08Cookies and analytics
We use Google Analytics, through Google Tag Manager, to understand which pages and tools actually help people — but only if you choose "Allow analytics". If you decline, none of it loads. You can change your mind at any time using "Analytics settings" at the bottom of any page.
When it is on, it records things like which page you viewed, which button you pressed, how far you read and which step of the form you reached. It never includes your injury, your answers, what you typed, your name or your contact details.
We do not use advertising cookies, we do not run remarketing, and advertising storage stays switched off even when you allow analytics.
09Guessing your city
We estimate the city you are in from your IP address, so the top of the page can say something relevant rather than something generic. It is only an estimate and it is often approximate.
It is not stored, it is not attached to your request, and it is never sent to anyone. The estimate is held briefly in our own cache against a scrambled form of your address, never the address itself, and it is never used to identify you.
This uses GeoLite2 data created by MaxMind. If we cannot place you confidently, we say nothing at all rather than guess.
10Technical logs
Like most websites, our hosting provider records standard technical information — IP address, browser type, pages requested, timestamps — to keep the site running and secure.
11How long we keep it
We have not yet set a retention period, and we are not going to pretend otherwise. Requests and the consent record attached to them are kept until we publish a retention policy here.
Two things we can tell you now. Consent records are kept for as long as we hold the request they belong to, because a record of what you agreed to is what protects you as much as us. And if you ask us to delete your request, we do not need to keep it in order to keep that promise.
12Your choices
- Do not send a request. Everything else on the site works without one.
- Decline analytics. Nothing loads if you do, and the site works identically.
- Withdraw consent to be contacted at any time, by replying to any message from us or by writing to us.
- Ask for a copy of the request you sent, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it.
We will not make you jump through hoops to do any of this, and we will not charge you for it.
13How it is protected
The site is served over an encrypted connection. Requests are visible only to signed-in administrators. Every request is given an identifier, and our internal activity log records what happened to it using that identifier rather than your details — so the log can show a request arrived and was delivered without holding your name, phone number or account of what happened.
No system is perfectly secure, and we will not claim otherwise.
14Children
This site is intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect information from children. If you believe a child has sent us a request, contact us and we will delete it.
15Changes to this notice
If we change what we collect, where it goes or how long we keep it, we will update this page and change the date below before the change takes effect.
